Stories and highlights
There's always something to celebrate at our school! From exciting events to proud moments and everyday wins, here are some of our highlights.
A year at our school
This term, 3 little chrysalises joined the Lilly Pillies class for 2-14 days. In this time, the chrysalis darkened and butterflies emerged!
After looking at the life cycle, we thought about our English unit on perspective and argument. What if the caterpillar didn’t want to change? What arguments might the caterpillar make?
If nothing ever changed, there’d be no butterflies.
Stage 1 students talked about this complex sentence and what it might mean. They talked about change in our own lives and how this sentence relates. There were lots of responses about the joy, colour and happiness represented by butterflies.
Lilly Pillies have explored symbol, representation and perspective through their integrated chrysalis/butterfly unit, deepening thinking and growing vocabularies in English. They explored symmetry, pattern and tessellation in mathematics, movement in dance and science through a life cycle study. The class sport teams also have awesome team names and actions to show they’re ready to play.
Bye bye butterflies (Flash, Zoey and Crystal), it’s been fun!
Happy Halloween!
Recently, a new student to Paxton PS asked if we could all dress up in spooky costumes on October 31st for Halloween? "Absolutely we can!"
All students and staff made the most of the opportunity with wonderful costumes with unscary faces (due to the big smiles and laughter all day)!
Teachers used 'Friday Freedom' to spend the afternoon session playing Halloween themed games with their classes and all students enjoyed a special treat on their way out of the gate.
A lovely way to finish Week 3 of Term 4!
Responsible Pet Ownership Program
It was great for K-2 to meet Darren and Border Collie Volt recently at Paxton.
Students learned to:
recognise dog emotions angry, scared and happy
respond when a dog is angry or scared - hands by side and eyes down, back away and tell an adult
recognise dangerous dog collar
ask permission to pat a dog
approach a dog safely (with permission).
A very cool experience!
"Our child is absolutely thriving at Paxton PS. We are so grateful for the care and support you've given the boys since starting. Thank you!” — a parent of Paxton Public School
